Two men who targeted a female police constable and a male police dog have been sentenced to a lifetime of hard work by the High Court after pleading guilty at the Old Bailey.
Alan Lewis and Richard Dutta, both from Trentham, said the victim was a victim of a racial bias and racially motivated attacks and attacked officers "with reckless indifference" after the dog appeared to be following them around the station.
The two have admitted one count of wounding with intent. They, and the officers they attacked, have also been convicted of a further three counts of causing unnecessary risk to life.
A third man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted six counts of common assault. Dutta, of Blackley Close, Oxford, said: "I must say what I did was totally out of character."
His barrister said: "It was an extreme reaction that has followed a number of other incidents of a person following a police dog to the extent that we would like to think it is an isolated incident and that there were incidents that went far in excess of that."
The officers, from Hampshire's Bedfordshire local force, have been given jail terms ranging from three months to two years. Lewis, 45, and Dutta, of Chichester, were each given an eight-month jail sentence for the aggravated assault and two-and-a-half-year jail terms for wounding with intent.
The court heard officers were trying to get the pair to give way when the attack occurred on 12 July 2015 near the West London station.
The court heard the constable, who suffered a fractured eye socket, suffered a wound that left her unable to operate her glasses and may never be able to see again. The constable had a number of stitches to close the wound and was being watched by a physiotherapist during her rehabilitation.
When the constable came on duty that afternoon, she was approached by Lewis. He said: "I know what you're like," the court heard. "I saw that my friend doesn't feel that is quite right, you know?"
He allegedly took her to a store in the area where there was a "small group of young men waiting outside the store".
The court heard a female shop employee who had been working by the corner, and approached the men. He asked Lewis what he wanted from her and Dutta allegedly responded: "There's a bottle. Where are your drinks?"
But as Dutta tried to reach the police officer to give her help, he said: "I'm not going to go ahead, you're in your home. Take your bag off me."
